SPIRIT MEETS IMPACT
The Shelton HS Cheer Booster is committed to supporting our student-athletes in ways that align with broader community and youth-development goals. In addition to strengthening school spirit and supporting extracurricular opportunities, our work contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that promote equity, education, and empowerment for all students.
Protect Cultural Heritage
Shelton High School serves the diverse communities of Mason County as a grade 9–12 school with more than 1,500 students, including those from four non-high school districts and two Native American reservations. The student population is 40% Hispanic, representing a rich mix of cultures, languages, and traditions. By supporting cheer and school spirit activities, the booster helps preserve and uplift the cultural identity of our community - celebrating the heritage, pride, and unity that define Shelton. Our events and traditions strengthen the sense of belonging for all students and families.
Promote Female Leadership
Our program creates meaningful opportunities for young women to lead, mentor, and build confidence. Through cheer, athletes learn public leadership, communication, responsibility, and decision-making. All skills that carry into adulthood and future careers.
Ensure Quality Education
We believe that strong extracurricular programs are an essential part of a quality education. The Shelton HS Cheer Booster works to keep students engaged, connected, and committed to their academic success by removing financial barriers and supporting full participation in school activities. Our board is also actively involved in school board meetings and district-level discussions to advocate for opportunities, resources, and educational quality on behalf of the cheer program. In addition, the booster serves on the Shelton Levy Committee to support sustainable funding and ensure that students have access to the programs and experiences they deserve.
Develop Employment Skills
Cheerleading builds real-world skills such as teamwork, accountability, time management, and professionalism. These foundational abilities prepare students for future employment and help them grow into well-rounded young adults.
Increase Resources for People in Poverty
Sixty percent of students at Shelton High School are considered economically disadvantaged. The Shelton HS Cheer Booster is committed to ensuring that participation in cheer is accessible to every student, regardless of financial circumstances. We provide direct financial support for cheer costs, and we also help connect families with community resources that may fit their unique needs. Our goal is to remove financial barriers so every athlete can fully participate and thrive.
Empower Equality
Our program fosters a safe, supportive environment where every student is valued and respected. The Shelton HS Cheer Booster is committed to creating a team culture that embraces diversity and ensures that all athletes feel welcome, seen, and supported. We ensure equal access to resources, recognition, and opportunities, and we work closely with families, school partners, and community leaders to maintain an environment rooted in dignity, respect, and belonging for every cheerleader.
